Breaking News

The latest developments in AI

📱 Apple - iOS 18's flashy AI features are fashionably late to the party, skipping September's iOS 18 and iPhone 16 debut. The revamped Siri, AI image generator, and ChatGPT integration won't be available until October's 18.1 update. And some AI features may not arrive until spring 2025! But fear not, eager devs—your chance to tinker starts this week with early betas.

🔍 Microsoft - A lucky few users of Bing are test-driving new AI features that serve up snappy answers right in their search results, potentially reducing the need to click through to websites. This follows Google's similar AI search launch, which faced criticism for occasionally inaccurate results. But as search engines get smarter, many are questioning the impact on web traffic and online advertising.

🧪 NIST - Dioptra has been re-released. This open-source tool puts AI models through the wringer, exposing their vulnerabilities to sneaky attacks like data poisoning. It's part of a broader push for AI safety, inspired by Biden's tech decree. While it can't tame every AI beast, Dioptra's here to keep our silicon friends honest and (hopefully) glitch-free.

Today’s AI Breakthrough

Chinese automaker NIO just unveiled the world’s first 5nm “smart-driving” AI chip that's got the smart car world buzzing. Their Shenji NX9031 is packing 50 billion transistors, 32 cores, and lightning-fast memory that can process pixels quicker than you can say "autonomous driving." NIO claims this silicon beast leaves the competition in the dust. They've already shown off some seriously impressive low-light image processing that puts other car chips to shame. While NIO's keeping quiet on the exact release date, one thing's clear: the race for the smartest car on the block just got a whole lot more interesting! 🧠🚗

Tutorial of the Day

Use Llama 3.1 at lightning-fast speeds

Step 1:

First, head over to Groq.

Once you’re there, keep reading…

Step 2:

Next, you’ll need to create an account and log in.

You’ll find an input in the upper-middle part of the screen.

Look in the top right corner and there you’ll see a dropdown menu.

As of today, you can use Llama 3.1 70B and Llama 3.1 8B.

Make your choice and you can start prompting.

Step 3:

Lastly, all you need to do is enter your prompt.

Groq is lightning-fast! If you’ve never used it, you’re in for a treat.

Note: There are usage limits in place due to high demand.

What if you want to use the 405B model?

There are multiple options, but they won’t be as fast as Groq.

One of the easiest ways to test 405B is by heading to together.ai if you don’t see it available directly on Groq’s site.

Get an account there, choose which model you want to use in the model dropdown menu, and start sending your prompts.

Be aware that there may be some usage limits for most options unless you use an API.

If you want to learn how to use an API so you never have to worry about running into usage limits again, vote ‘Other’ below and let us know.

That's all there is to it. Enjoy!
